Raphael Paintings

Hi everyone,
We did not have time to get to Raphael in the young men's class on Wednesday.  Isaiah did have a prezi made with your favorite paintings.  Click here to see everyone's favorites.  I hope you enjoyed reading about Raphael even though we did not get to him in class.  I loved that his father taught him to see the beauty around him.  It was sad that his parents both died at a young age, but it was neat to see God's hand in his life as people were placed in his path that helped him with his next step in developing this talent that has blessed so many people.  I liked how he would put cute, chubby angels in his paintings - you could tell that he loved children and their innocence.

Eureka songs on Stars and Sun

Grace and Rachel

I'm sorry girls, but for some crazy reason the one that I recorded at the star party will not upload.  I put it on Google Plus shared just with my Layton Vanguard circle.  If either of you want to share it with others, then ask your parents!  :)

Hannah

Megan and Cassia:  I'm so sorry that my brain didn't think to record when you guys were performing!  I need an encore so I can add it here!  :)

Encore! Encore!  Thanks Megan and Cassia for performing it again so we could have it!
Hope you all enjoy!  I loved these songs, they were so creative.  Next time though, I'm getting a front row seat so we can see your faces!  Way to go all of you!

Write or die

I was told to post this. Its a tool that helps you write and not stop.  Scroll down till you see a box that says web app. My favorite setting is kamikaze with a evil grace mode. (Yes, that really is a mode. There's also a strict grace mode and a forgiving grace mode. Now that I think about that, its kinda funny. ) Enjoy!

Leadership Today.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say, today was awesome. I was very inspired and loved all that you had to say. Just some thoughts from my reflection when I got home:

What does it mean to be a hero? What makes someone a hero?:
  • Leader
  • Smart/Creative
  • Inspired
  • Makes Friends Easily
  • Gives Credit to God
  • Defends Others
  • Sees Faults in themselves and fixes them.
  • Example to Others
  • Self Confidence
  • Good Habits
What do I admire in my hero? (John Adams):
  • Brave
  • Loved/respected his wife
  • Leader
  • Said it how it was.
Now answer this question for yourself: What do I need to do to become a (better) hero?

I also thought I'd share the poem I wrote for Journeyman:

God's Hand in America:
By Megan Johnson

I look in the present,
the future the past,
Looking for something,
Great, big and vast,

Bigger then oceans,
Bigger then whales,
Bigger then skyscrapers,
Or sail boat sails.

I'm looking for God's hand,
In the water and Sand,
And in the past and future,

In our Human culture,

America, I learned about,
And what we have that we can shout
What has been done, Before I came,
What is different? What is the same?

I learned about Journal writing,
I learned about fighting,
I learned to ask this question, say:
Have I seen God's hand in my life today?

But do we mean it?
Where have we seen it?
How can we know,
What He has to show?

Look in the scriptures!
In many fixtures,
Look in the books,
Or on your nooks!

In history it shows us,
Time and time again,
God gives us great leaders,
To fight Evil; we will win.

Washington was brave,
And smart as we should be.
Joseph smith, obedient,
And wise and humbly.

Think of leaders in your lives,
In church, in family, friends,
What characteristics do they have?
That God himself has given?

Look for these examples,
And become one yourself,
But most of all importance,
His hand look for in yourself.

Thanks so much!
-Dassia

This Year's Theme is  "Joy in the Journey!"

John 16:33   "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

On our vision hike we learned that there is much joy to be found in our Vanguard journey!

  • Joy of discovering and learning new things.
  • Joy of teaching others what you learned.
  • Joy of serving, becoming who God wants you to become
  • Joy of "being the change" like in Zach Hunter's book and in Sheri Dew and the BYU basketball team, learning that "no one can take your place."

We learned that joy needs work. We don't just lay back and say, "Okay, I'm ready for joy, bring it on!" We gotta work hard, set and accomplish righteous goals of learning, teaching, serving... and before you know it, joy comes pouring down from heaven!

Joy in our Pioneer Trek Journey this Summer

My daughter Grace has a gift of finding the joy in life, and making even hard things fun!  On our pioneer trek this summer, she became the designated ward air conditioner. The youth would come to her and ask her to cool them off. Here's what happened.

And then they would face into the wind. Worked every time.  Joy!

There is always more joy in the journey when you're with people you love. This is Grace and her awesome Dad on our pioneer trek.

What do you think the pioneers would have thought of Grace's blingy sunglasses, EFY bracelet, and blue fingernails? :)
